Di-o-matic 3ds Max PresentationMNM Presents; "Get Lost in Visual Effects" on Thursday, Feb 16, in Red River College  on Princess at 6:30 pm. Get there early to find parking and secure yourself a seat! We're meeting in the auditorium on the main floor (across from the security desk).

We have been fortunate to book Laurent Abecassis of Di-o-matic in Montreal to join us for this training event. In 2005 Laurent won an Emmy award for the Visual Effects he created on the "Lost" television series. This Thursday evening he'll show you how he created these Emmy award winning effects in person using samples from the TV series "Lost" and "Alias".

Laurent will demonstrate how he generates visual effects utilizing Auto Desk's, 3D-Studio Max. 3ds Max is the program behind an endless number of films and TV series such as Battlestar Galactica, HBO's Rome, and The Soprano's, not to mention video games like Unreal, Knights of the Old Republic, and World of Warcraft (WoW).

On Tuesday, January 24, 2006, MNM presents, "Scoring for Film with Logic Pro 7," in the A/V Room at Psych Health on William. The meeting begins at 7:00 pm sharp. For a map with directions click here .

Joe Silva, noted movie and house music composer, returns to share his workflow scoring for film. Since Joe presented several years ago, a number of things have changed, namely; Logic Pro. On Tuesday night Joe will give us an overview of how he scores music by showing us his studio setup and talking about "The Spotting Session." He'll then take us through creating a MIDI-only score (with MIDI orchestration), followed by utilizing real instruments, and finishing with how he creates mock-ups. A question and answer session will follow.

On Tuesday, November 22/05, MNM presents, "It's a WiFi Wonderland" in the A/V Room at Psych Health on William. The meeting begins at 7:00 pm sharp.

Jason Lee and Theodore Baschak are two pioneers in Winnipeg's WiFi community. For the past couple of years they have been Wardriving throughout Winnipeg. Wardrivinging is the term used for identifying WiFi hotspots or access points. Their website www.wifiwinnipeg.ca shows a map of all the open and closed access points in Winnipeg.

On Tuesday Jason and Theodore will talk about the making of the WiFi Winnipeg project, how they Wardrive, the tools they use, and how you can be a member of the local WiFi community.

We will have some fantastic WiFi training books from OReilly and PeachPit Press to giveaway as well as some surprise WiFi hardware!

On Tuesday, July 19, 2005, Manitoba New Media presents, "Storytelling with Final Cut Pro," in the Psych Health A/V Lab on William. For directions click here. The presentation begins at 7:00 pm sharp.

Dave Wowchuk, designer and producer from Artisan Media in Winnipeg will be on hand to present a casual, yet informative glimpse into the creative process of story-telling and visual communication using Apple's Final Cut Pro. Dave will be using one of his projects to illustrate the foundation of video production: the story. He will also use a recent project from the 2005 Juno Awards to show how he created a highlight reel for a local radio station from a series of seemingly disconnected events. A bio of Dave and his company are included below.
