Ian McCausland On Tuesday, December 12/06, New Media Manitoba presents, "Photo Workflow on the Down Low" at the Psych Health Centre. The meeting starts at 7 pm sharp and there is no charge to attend.
Photographic workflow is the movement and processing of digital images through a work process. It covers all aspects of the photographic process - from image capture to image output and everything in between. Finding ways to optimize this workflow is an important task for professional photographers. Improved workflows can leave more time for photography and less time spent sitting in front of their computers.
Commercial photographer, Ian McCausland, will relate his experience in finding a personal workflow suitable for him. He will focus on his most recent and radical change in his workflow: Apple's Aperture. Released only a year ago Aperture rose the stakes in the quest to capture professional photographers, prompting Adobe to answer back with a quickly released public beta of Lightroom. But the battle is not over! With the recent release of Aperture 1.5, Apple introduces a whole host of new features, making it one of the most versatile programs for the professional photographer.

Thursday, Sept 14/06 is your chance to hear vitaminsforyou (aka: Bryce Kushnier) discuss “new media performance and composition” at the Park Theatre, 698 Osborne Street. Lecture and demonstration begin at 7 pm. Get there early to find a seat. Bryce will talk about genre-mixing and piecing together coherence out of a wide pallet of musical backgrounds. He will discuss his approach to writing music and how he has developed a live setup both as a solo artist and running electronics for other groups. This event is open to the public and industry.
On Friday, Sept 15/06 see Bryce perform live as vitaminsforyou at the Pyramid Cabaret on 176 Fort Street. Opening for Bryce will be dj suz, blunderspublik, and dj co-op. Vitaminsforyou and blunderspublik are part of a growing movement of live, digital-interactive performers, that play a laptop the way an expert pianist would play a piano. Their live performances allow them to manipulate a digital orchestra dynamically; extending and modifying tracks, adjusting melodies and samples on the fly, and interacting with the audience in ways an accomplished conductor could not manage.
