We are called at various intervals in our lives to affect change; to take part in something that impacts our lives and the lives of those in our community. We can choose to heed that call and live in a world of abundance. Or, we can choose to live a life of scarcity - constantly worrying if someone will steal our piece of the pie.

Today I am making the call to those that want to take part in a LANDMARK new media event. I am asking whether people like yourself will stand up and make an impact on the new media industry here in our province. NOTHING like what I'm about to propose has ever been done in Manitoba. So what do you say? Are you ready to make history?

On Tuesday, December 11, and Thursday, December 13, 2007, New Media Manitoba is creating the first of its kind, "New Media Strategy." With the support of forty-representatives and stakeholders, we are hosting two-days of strategy and planning that will guide where our new media industry is headed in Manitoba. There are 4-goals that we will achieve during these group planning sessions:
  1. Determine what skill gaps you and other stakeholders feel exist in the new media workplace (so we can plan training to help fill the gaps in these problem areas)
  2. Develop a provincial strategy for new media. ie: What market opportunities exist in the global marketplace where we could target our development strength? What are we really good at?
  3. Identify partners to execute the strategy we are creating.
  4. Explore how our association: New Media Manitoba, can best serve the needs of the new media community.
Other provinces such as Quebec and PEI have undertaken similar strategy sessions and are THRIVING. They attract new media work from all around the world because many of their companies and stakeholders work toward a common target market. What do YOU want our industry to look like? Where do YOU fit into the big picture of new media profit in this province?

  1. If you are a new media developer or business owner I invite you to attend our December 11, 2007 strategy session from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm with lunch provided.
  2. If you are a stakeholder (eg: government, educator, association or organization leader) with an interest in new media, then I invite you to attend our December 13, 2007 strategy session from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm including lunch.

Due to the group work of these planning sessions we can only accept 20-people per session. Please review which role best describes you (industry member or stakeholder) and then send an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it along with one or two sentences describing why you want to participate. If our sessions become full don't worry! We are planning additional ways for you to get involved.

Members of our provincial and federal government will be participating in and observing these landmark strategy sessions. The results of our two-day strategy WILL affect change in this province.

Are you up for the task? Send an email to: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . Further details will be sent to you provided we have open seats.
