Browser Security Lock On today's show we looked at ways to shop safely online. Several of the tips we covered were:

Common Sense
: We're assuming you're not purchasing illegal software from a company in Iran. If you're looking to purchase nefarious or illegal items then you're on your own.
View Online, Buy In-Store: If no matter what I say can convince you to buy online, look into web sites liked Chapters or Best Buy that show you the inventory of the item right on their web site. Once you've confirmed the product is in stock, walk into your local store, slap down your cash, and walk out with your 50" Plasma Screen. Careful, someone may be jacking your car...
Location, Location, Location: If you're comfortable with the idea of purchasing online (and you should be) look for the web site's contact information before you make your purchase. Call them up and confirm they exist. Inquire about shipping charges, privacy policy, and return information, as these could add up and be potential deal-breakers.

Encryption: Once you've added the item of your dreams to your online shopping cart it's time to Check Out. Look for a "lock" icon in the bottom right side of your web browser and/or your address bar. Click on the lock icon to ensure there is Encryption on the page. Encryption protects the transfer of your credit card information online as it gets processed by the seller.
Liability: Credit card companies protect you from illegal and fraudulent transactions. If, on the 0.001% chance your credit card number gets stolen after following the above tips, you can count on your major credit card company to reverse the fraudulent charges on your behalf. Rest easy knowing that this is one instance where 'the man' has got your back.
Froogle
: For fun, head to Froogle.com and search for your coveted product of choice. Not only do you get a price comparison of all the online retailers that carry your product, but other purchasers have rated their transaction with the seller. It's good to know how scrupulous a company is before you buy from them.

A video from today's episode will be posted later.
