Ruby on RailsOn Tuesday, September 18, 2007, Peer Allan of Bipolar Software will deliver a 2-hour technology showcase of one of the Internet's hottest technologies: Ruby on Rails (RoR). This meeting will be held at Psych Health on William and begins at 7 pm sharp. Please arrive at least 20-minutes early to find parking and get registered! There is no charge to attend but it does take time to sign everyone in.

In just two short years, Ruby on Rails has revamped web application development. Ruby on Rails boasts a feature set found in large enterprise frameworks, yet is simple enough for beginners due to its intuitive conventions. It is fun to work with, free, and very “Web 2.0”.

Peer Allan, will be the first to admit feeling a bit unsettled using RoR once he began completing certain tasks in minutes that used to take him hours. One line of code can replace hundreds and you’ll start to wonder how you’ve been developing without it all this time.

A full outline of features to be covered and take-away materials will be provided 1-week prior to the presentation. The goal is to give all attendees physical and electronic resources to be able to install, configure and start using Ruby on Rails without hunting for all the backup references.

So on Tuesday night bring your clients, your programmers, your teachers or anyone you can think of that has dabbled in web application development. If you’ve been working with PHP, .ASP/.NET, Java or ColdFusion, you will not want to miss this 'opinionated' web development tool.

...and buckle your seatbelts. It's going to be a hard hitting, action packed, light speed demonstration of what Ruby on Rails has to offer!

NOTE: To expedite getting you into the auditorium and seated, we highly recommend preregistering for this demonstration by clicking here.

“Ruby on Rails is a breakthrough in lowering the barriers of entry to programming. Powerful web applications that formerly might have taken weeks or months to develop can be produced in a matter of days.”
-Tim O'Reilly, Founder of O'Reilly Media

"Ruby on Rails is transitioning from a .Net and Java replacement to an integrative framework that deploys seamlessly onto existing .Net or Java deployment infrastructures. Leveraging existing .Net/Java libraries and know-how marks a key milestone that demonstrates Ruby on Rails' maturity as a commercial framework." Jonathan Siegel, founder of ELC Technologies

“It is impossible not to notice Ruby on Rails. It has had a huge effect both in and outside the Ruby community... Rails has become a standard to which even well-established tools are comparing themselves to.”
-Martin Fowler, Author of Refactoring, PoEAA, XP Explained

“Ruby on Rails is astounding. Using it is like watching a kung-fu movie, where a dozen bad-ass frameworks prepare to beat up the little newcomer only to be handed their asses in a variety of imaginative ways.”
-Nathan Torkington, O'Reilly Program Chair for OSCON
