On Wednesday, October 10, 2007, New Media Manitoba, the University of Manitoba's Department of Computer Science, Microsoft, the International Game Developer's Association, and MindSet present, "Develop Mental" for the XBox 360 in Winnipeg! This event will be held in University Centre's Multi-Purpose Room at the University of Manitoba. Registration is complimentary for students, teachers, members of the IGDA, and members of New Media Manitoba.

This October 10, Microsoft's, Develop Mental Game Camp will show you how to begin developing video games using the freely available XNA Framework. Our training session will be hosted in the morning from 9:00 am - 12:30 pm. Due to demand, we have been asked to repeat the training in the afternoon from 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm for anyone that has difficulty attending the morning session.

Car Jump While developers have always been able to make video games, the XNA Framework has reduced the once steep learning curve for game development and made it into something more attainable for developers. An opportunity like this is unprecedented in game development history. Hobbyists have never before had the chance to play their games on a next-gen console like the XBox 360 without the luxury of friends in high places or purchasing expensive console development  licenses.

If you have a background in programming and an interest in video game development you will not want to miss this event. We'll also be giving away some great swag: all attendees will receive a DVD with the XNA Development Tools plus a chance to win an XBox 360! We'll have some awesome backup prizes too like copies of the game Halo 3.

XBox 360 Console *Please note that are only 100-seats available for each session so we encourage you to pre-register early. If you are not pre-registered or if the event is full, you will be placed on a waiting list at the door. Once registered you MUST arrive at least 20 mins prior to the start time otherwise we will begin admitting names from our waiting list. Don't forget to print your registration email and bring it with you as confirmation.

We also recommend arriving early to find parking. The University parkade is often overflowing so plenty of lead time is in order.
